Ready, Set, Play!
Presented by The G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education at Ryerson University, ChangSchoolTalks is an annual professional development and networking event that connects participants with leading experts in technology-enhanced learning and training.
The theme of ChangSchoolTalks 2018 was "Serious Games" and featured presentations from nine internationally renowned experts in gamification. Hosted on May 3, this sold-out event attracted over 200 guests from the higher education, healthcare, and corporate sectors.
In concurrent morning sessions, keynote speakers shared their insights on the design, development and implementation of game-based learning. Below is a summary of the topics explored in each track:
- Higher Education: Incorporation of game-based learning into course design to help students develop critical thinking and collaborative problem-solving skills through interactivity and critical reflection;
- Healthcare: Application of serious game techniques to training and development programs to prepare learners for clinical and other healthcare-related environments;
- Corporate: Tangible strategies for integrating serious games into an organization's training and development plan.
An afternoon panel discussion explored the overall impact of serious games on learning and offered key insights into game development.
